According to my academic calendar, internship opportunities came at my college (IIT BHU) around July-Sept 2021, but at that time I was into my startup NOGOZO and decided to not sit for on-campus internship opportunities.
But If you have read my NOGOZO's journey, you might have idea about my major need to pursue this internship at first place.
I got this intern at esamudaay (a DIY local-commerce SaaS) via cold email (i had an insider information via a friend that they are looking to hire someone for such role), went through only 1 interview, and got hired as Product Intern in Oct 2021. Major questions of interview were around my previous work experience of building the startup with few basic case studies. Initially it was a 6 month internship, later on I spent total 11 months (9 months + gap + 2 months) at esamudaay.
They liked my work and I liked the company goal & culture, as well as I got so much valuable insights about the industry of my interest. Afterall, you always remember your first internships, aren't you?
When I joined esamudaay in October 2021, it was in a very early stage, it would not be wrong to say that I was the only person they have as Product-Analytics team. They had a functional app and an informational website only. Their main presence was in Udupi, Karnataka.
My work mainly involved two things:
Setting up an analytics structure for the organization to study user behaviour and develop or improve the product accordingly. From scratch, I added Google Analytics and Google Data Studio to their app, defined what to track, how to track it, and what calculated metrics to aim for each use case. It was fun and an insane amount of learning, although the curve was steep.
Based on the data, preparing dynamic dashboards for quick insights to speed up the decision-making process. For product improvement and insights, I contributed to improving search efficiency, churn, order flow, user segmentation, abandoned carts, and other related analyses.
Later on, esamudaay got on the ONDC wave and expanded to a further 5+ cities. I was lucky to work with them at the time when they were on ONDC and got exposed to enormous data-driven insights about Indian commerce.
The culture at esamudaay was amazing, no hierarchal barrier, employee first policies & most importantly great people.
As you might know, my major need to start the internship was to earn additional resources as fuel for my start-up NOGOZO. Initially, I got the internship for INR 15k/month. But after completing my 2 months, I felt I had done a great work here & also my needs were increasing for my start-up. Hence I asked for the raise. Eventually, they accepted given my works, now my stipend was raised to INR 30K/month. Finally, during my last 2 working month it was 35k. You get the raise only when you ask for it! :D
